Tom's Survey Notes

Best paid survey sites in Australia — the honest comparison

Quick disclosure: the panel I rank #1 here (Octopus Group) is one I'm a member of and have a referral link to. Every "Octopus" link on this page goes to that referral URL — you get no sign-up bonus from using it, and you can sign up direct at octopusgroup.com.au if you'd rather. The ranking is based on pay rate, cashout rules, and real member feedback, not on the referral arrangement. Full details on the Octopus review page and about page. No commercial relationship with any other panel listed.

G'day — Tom here. Every "best paid surveys Australia" list on Google is auto-generated affiliate content that lists ten sites in random order, parrots the marketing blurb, and links to whichever ones pay the highest commissions. This is not one of those.

I spent weeks going through each panel's actual terms of service, the support docs, Trustpilot and ProductReview complaints, and years of r/beermoneyAus and Whirlpool threads to put this together. I've included the duds, the "not available to Aussies" ones, and the actually-decent ones. Full sources on the sources page if you want to check my working.

Short answer: The best paid survey site for Australians in 2026 is Octopus Group, which pays $0.28 per minute of survey time, the highest rate among consumer panels targeting Australian residents. PureProfile is a strong second with higher invitation volume. Casual users across 1-2 panels typically earn $20-100 per month.

The short version

If you just want the answer:

  1. Octopus Group — highest pay rate for Aussie consumer surveys at $0.28/min, cash straight to your bank at $20. Full review here. My #1 pick.
  2. PureProfile — solid second. Slightly lower per-minute rate on longer surveys, but higher invitation volume. Works great alongside Octopus.
  3. Prolific — only worth it if you fit the academic research niche. When studies match, the pay is great; when they don't, you'll sit idle for weeks.

No penalty for being on multiple panels. Most serious members are on 2–3 at once and take whichever surveys turn up in their inbox — they rarely overlap.

*Octopus has a ~2.1/5 Trustpilot AU rating. Most of the complaints cluster around screen-outs and account suspensions near the cashout threshold — patterns that show up on every consumer survey panel but are reported more prominently for Octopus. I cover this honestly in the full review.

Panel-by-panel rundown

Octopus Group — my #1 pick

The highest pay rate I could find for any panel actually targeting Aussie consumers: $0.28 per minute, backed up by multiple independent review sites (see the sources page). Direct EFT to Aussie bank accounts at a $20 minimum cashout. Registered Australian company (Octopus Group Enterprises, ABN 99 657 650 194). Members on r/beermoneyAus and Whirlpool consistently report $20–100/month in casual earnings.

The Trustpilot rating is mediocre and I don't hide it — I cover it honestly in the full review. Most complaints come down to screen-outs near cashout and account suspensions, both of which show up on every panel to some degree. For me, the pay rate advantage outweighs the grievances, which is why I stuck with it.

PureProfile — the solid second

Australia's largest mainstream panel by member base and longevity. Trustpilot AU 4.2/5 from over 2,000 reviews — noticeably better sentiment than Octopus, even though the per-hour earnings end up similar. PureProfile publishes rates of ~$1.40 for a 5-minute survey and $2.80 for a 10-minute one ($0.28/min on shorter surveys, matching Octopus), with longer surveys trailing slightly per-minute (~$0.23–0.27/min on 15–20 minute ones). Members say you get more invitations than Octopus, so the volume makes up for the slightly lower rate on longer surveys.

Main downsides: end-of-survey disqualifications are common, and PayPal availability for AU members has been on-and-off historically. Still a solid complement to Octopus — most serious members run both.

Prolific — great pay, but niche

Prolific isn't a consumer survey panel — it's an academic research platform used by university researchers and behavioural scientists. When studies are available, the pay is excellent: Prolific mandates a minimum of £8/hr (~AUD $16) and recommends £12/hr (~AUD $24). Screen-out rate is much lower than consumer panels because researchers pre-screen participants. Trustpilot rating is 4.6/5, the highest on this list.

The catch for Aussies: most studies are run by UK and US universities targeting UK/US participants. Members here report long droughts between matching studies — a typical pattern is a quiet week, then four studies in a single day. Payouts are in USD or GBP via PayPal, so you lose 3–4% to currency conversion when you cash out to AUD. Great for uni students, grad students, or anyone in a niche demographic researchers target. Average for everyone else.

Toluna — high volume, low pay

Massive international panel with millions of users. Members report plenty of invitations but the pay is low — $1–3 for surveys running 10–20 minutes. The points-to-cash conversion is confusing on purpose. Trustpilot is 4.1/5 across 220,000+ reviews, which is decent, but the community consensus is "fine if you've got nothing better, frustrating if you do." Worth skipping unless you've exhausted the better options.

YouGov — slow but pleasant

YouGov is primarily a political polling company. Members say the surveys are short with low screen-out rates, which is why the Trustpilot (4.5/5) is so strong. The catch is the low pay rate: 100–500 points per survey with a 5,000-point (~$20) cashout threshold, gift-cards-only in Australia (no PayPal). Realistic casual earnings are about one $20 gift card every 2–4 months. Worth joining if you like the polling content; not competitive as an earning source.

OpinionWorld AU — decent third pick

Australia-specific panel operated by the international research firm Dynata. Trustpilot AU 4.2/5 from a smaller review base. PayPal payouts, ~$10 minimum cashout. Rates are lower than Octopus but the platform is solid and Aussie-targeted. A reasonable third or fourth panel to add to a rotation if you're going hard.

Swagbucks — weak for Aussies

Swagbucks is strongest in the US, UK, and Canada. Australian users get a smaller pool of surveys and report lower realistic earnings (~$2–4/hr). It also offers cashback shopping, video watching, and games, which can stack up for people already shopping online, but for survey earnings specifically the rates are well below Octopus and PureProfile. Skip unless you're already using it for cashback.

Pinecone Research and Branded Surveys — not for Aussies

Both of these show up on international "best survey sites" lists constantly. Neither accepts Australian members — Pinecone operates in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, and France only, and Branded Surveys is US/UK/CA only. Don't bother trying to sign up.

The bottom line

For an Aussie wanting realistic pocket money from paid surveys, here's the shortlist:

  1. Octopus Group for the highest per-minute cash rate. Full review here.
  2. PureProfile as a volume complement.
  3. Prolific if you fit the academic research niche.

Multi-panel membership is permitted by all three and is the smart play for maximising earnings. The rest of the panels listed here are acceptable secondary choices but none are actually competitive with the top three for Aussie members.
